Governor Nasir El Rufai is a Nigerian politician and the current Governor of Kaduna State. He is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party and has been involved in Nigerian politics since the early 2000s. Prior to his current position, El Rufai served as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and as the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises.
While Governor El Rufai has been a supporter of the APC and the current administration, he has also been critical of some of its policies and actions. For example, in 2018, he criticized the government's handling of security issues in the country and called for a more proactive approach to addressing the problem.
El Rufai has also been vocal about the need for restructuring Nigeria's federal system, arguing that the current structure gives too much power to the central government and does not adequately represent the interests of different regions and ethnic groups. He has advocated for devolving more power to state and local governments and for creating a more equitable distribution of resources.
In recent months, there have been some reports of tension between El Rufai and President Muhammadu Buhari, who is also a member of the APC. Some have speculated that this tension may be related to El Rufai's political ambitions, as he has been mentioned as a potential presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.
As recently as last week, Governor El Rufai was heard on TV stations being overtly critical of the Presidency and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the new monetary policies where Nigeria's currencies in 1000, 500 and 200 Naira denominations had their colors changed. In a widely available broadcasts and in news bulletins, the president, Retired Genral Mohammadu Buhari had earlier reiterated the need to stop corrupt politicians from buying votes with stolen funds, stashed away in homes and warehouses during the presidential and house of assembly elections scheduled for February 25, 2023. He also mentioned in the broadcasts, the fact that kidnappers and criminals demand large sums of money in ransomes for kidnapped citizens and other reasons prompting the change of the color of the aforementioned currencies and also moving the country to a cashless economy.
However, it is important to note that politics in Nigeria is complex, and there may be multiple factors contributing to any tensions or disagreements between politicians. It is also important to approach any claims or reports with a critical eye and to seek out multiple sources of information before drawing any conclusions.
