As Aso Rock Shops For A New INEC Boss, Isaac Fayose Suggests Appointing Verydarkblackman

According to Vanguard, there are plans to appoint a compliant successor to Yakubu when he vacates his position. This move is reportedly aimed at influencing the outcome of the 2027 general election. Sources indicate that individuals with connections to President Tinubu are orchestrating this strategy from outside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

Vanguard identifies a former governor from the south-south region, part of the 1999 political class, as the key figure behind this initiative. The conspirators are allegedly seeking to nominate and confirm a pliable candidate as Yakubu’s replacement to ensure the success of their plan to manipulate the 2027 election.

Several names are being considered, including those who have previously served as national commissioners and resident electoral commissioners, chosen for their perceived flexibility. Yakubu's tenure included the controversial 2019 and 2023 elections, marred by issues related to INEC’s BVAS and IReV systems.

The 1999 Constitution outlines the appointment process for the INEC chairman in Section 154(1) and (2). It specifies in the Third Schedule, Paragraph 14, that INEC members must possess "unquestionable integrity" and cannot be affiliated with any political party.

Additionally, Legit.ng has reported that President Tinubu has requested the Senate's approval to dismiss three suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) due to alleged misconduct. The RECs in question—Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Nura Ali (Sokoto)—were suspended for their involvement in the 2023 elections. Tinubu's request, presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calls for prompt action, with lawmakers expected to discuss and make a decision on the matter soon.
